III. HOW DOES FAITH SAVE?

  • A. Salvation is based on Christ
  • 1. Luke 19:10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.'' (NKJ)
  • 2. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (NKJ)
  • 3. 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, (NKJ)
  • 3. Heb 9:12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. (NKJ)

  • B. Faith saves or two reasons
  • 1. It enables us to believe in and trust the work of Christ on our behalf
  • 2. It enables us to yield obediently as imperfect humans while looking to a perfect sacrifice to provide our forgiveness

  • C. Romans 6
  • 1. Rom 6:16-18
  • a. you prove whose servant you are by obedience
  • b. they were servants of sin, but they obeyed a form of doctrine
  • c. their obedience resulted in freedom from sin
  • 2. Rom 6:3-7
  • a. here is what you believe -- death, burial, resurrection of Christ
  • b. here is what you obey -- death, burial, resurrection
  • c. all the focus is on Christ, not any work of merit
  • d. the action proves our trust

CONCLUSION

  • A. Saving faith is a particular kind of faith
  • 1. Not little, weak, incomplete or dead
  • 2. Saving faith is a firm belief in the gospel of Christ coupled with our obedience to it
  • B. Saving faith believes and obeys because that's what God-pleasing faith always does
