3. Fear of the Pharisees caused them to have an incomplete faith
D. People can have a dead faith 1. James 2:17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (NKJ) 2. This is the man who wants to be a Christian in his mind only 3. This faith is merely intellectual -- it is not demonstrated in life
E. People can have great faith 1. Matt 8:10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ""Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! (NKJ) 2. Here was a centurion who fully believed in Jesus 3. He acted on his belief and only asked Jesus to exercise his authority to heal his servant
F. There is also a faith that saves 1. Heb 10:39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. (NKJ) 2. This is a powerful faith 3. This faith is of a different nature than most 4. This is the faith we should want to possess
II. WHAT IS SAVING FAITH?
A. It is that faith which the Bible urges us to have 1. It is a faith composed of what we believe coupled with what we are going to do about it 2. James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (NKJ)
B. It is important to see what James is saying 1. Faith is compared to the body 2. The spirit is compared to works 3. The body without the spirit is dead 4. So a faith devoid of works is dead
C. This is the great principle of faith 1. There are different kinds of faith, but really only one kind that pleases God 2. It is the complete faith -- one that incorporates belief and action
